Camshafts

PMI’s extensive cam development for the OHC-6 has resulted in a broad inventory of finger follower cams with profiles ranging from traditional stock camshafts to those more aggressive and wild than grinds currently available.

E

Pontiac's"E" grind, the original 4-BBl Sprint cam, reproduced to exact factory specifications.

Duration 195° @ .050", .438" lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio, 109° LSA

H

Pontiac’s “H” grind, the hotter 1969 4-Bbl. Manual Transmission Sprint cam, reproduced to exact factory specifications.

Duration 211° @ .050", .438" lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio, 109° LSA

Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage R and Custom Camshaft grinds:

All Primatech Stage and Custom grinds are ground on factory cams, then hardened and Parkerized® for increased durability. Stage cams require correcting the valve train geometry to maintain proper factory hydraulic lash adjuster function. Milling the cam tower, installing longer stem valves (to adjust the valve tip height) or adding lash adjuster spacers are three of the most popular methods for recovering valve train geometry. Each method requires measuring the radius of the base circle to calculate the reduction. Primatech provides this information with all Stage cams, along with correct procedures for restoring valve train geometry. See also the Tech Section. (Link to Tech section.)

Primatech installs longer valves in all cylinder head assemblies that are paired with stage cams. For engines that may be restored to original condition, lash adjuster spacers are the most convenient means of restoring geometry. For performance upgrades such as a cam swap when the head is not removed, a milled cam tower / cam housing can be the preferred approach.

Stage 1

PMI’s Street/Strip grind, this cam is perfectly matched to our free-flowing intake and exhaust systems. This cam retains good street drivability with more power and torque across the entire RPM spectrum. Wider lobe separations and longer duration produce good idle qualities.

Duration 216° @ .050", .445" lift, 108° LSA

Stage 2

A slightly more aggressive grind than PMI’s Stage I Street/Strip grind, this cam will really nail your back to the seat. We’ve matched it perfectly to our free-flowing intake and exhaust systems with a mildly or wildly ported head. This cam still retains good street manners though a manual transmission or a higher stall speed converter are highly recommended. Wider lobe separations and longer duration produce a nice, slightly lopey idle.

Duration 223° @ .050", .460" lift, 109° LSA

Stage R

PMI’s Strip and Road Course grind. Wild and nasty, this cam makes the V-engine crowd wish they’d dropped a couple pistons.
